Informatics in shopfitting

Informatics in shopfitting is of central importance, as delivery times get shorter and shorter while the products are getting more complex. A working data processing which is adjusted to the respective options is a key importance, because only a company who has its data architecture under control will always be one step ahead.  This page deals with the topic IT in detail and is divided into two chapters:

Chapter 1 Informatics- professions in shopfitting
Chapter 2 ERP System, important information for the rearrangement/migration/launch

Chapter 1

Members of staff who are experienced in the IT environment and enjoy the illustration of business processes (GPO) by the system, who like to design, experiment and discuss, are important elements of every company, no matter which size, or if shopfitting, exhibition- or display construction. The times when the “IT guys” were sitting in the basement with gallons of coffee and generated fonts on the basis of manuals, are long gone. Today, people with IT expertise are often sitting at the table as well, if e.g. certain order calculations shall be connected to complex BOMs, so that the results are available more quickly. The IT guy has become an important element of the daily business.

Chapter 2

ERP System, important information for rearrangement/migration/launch

The ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning) or inventory management system is the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM of an enterprise. The advantage of such a “comprehensive system“ (comprehensive= from offer documentation to billing) is that all business processes within a system are pictured. Every interface means handing over data, every data input (data manipulation) implies effort. The launching of an ERP system poses a challenge for every enterprise; therefore, the following aspects are of central importance:

  • Strategic consideration needs to be enquired beforehand
    • Prevention of interfaces, avoiding data entry at various locations (data consistency), which reports, which budget (with capital surplus plan), considering long introduction phase
  • As much standard as possible, as few backpacks as necessary
    • Every backpack programming has to be considered during updates
  • Second a key user from every department,
    • Usually the key user is not available for the daily business of the enterprise (during the planning and introduction phase)

Launching an ERP System

As shown in the graph, key users play an important role before and after implementing the ERP system.

Implementing an ERP system is complex, at this point the future operations of an enterprise are positioned. Therefore, the respective project groups as well as the division of responsibilities are of central importance.

The depiction of the correct data architecture is a challenge for every department. The throughput which is controlled by the respective statuses is very significant as well.
